about
Perfect is written from the depths of lockdown 2020 - exploring what the perfect love really is and, does it even exist?
It is an anthem for 2022 to embrace, celebrate and cherish love in it’s ever evolving state. The beauty that two imperfect people could make something so sacred and last a lifetime.
Perfect also challenges the definition we can put on the term “relationship”. A relationship doesn’t need to be two separate individuals, but could also be that relationship with oneself.
After building the bones of the song in her Ōtepoti home, Kylie met up with Chris Mac and Noema Te Hau to further dive into the question “What is Perfect”? It was in the APRA studio at Parachute, Auckland that they embraced the realization that there is no such thing as a Perfect love, rather the acceptance of our own imperfections and those of our loved ones that can create a love to last the ages.
lyrics
Verse 1
He’s kind, not the type that buys you flowers everyday, more the type to lend you his shoulder to hide your face in the cinema at the scary parts
He’s light, not the type that burns your eyes like your cellphone screen, he’ll make you want to tap dance in the street and you don’t care if anybody sees..
Pre-Chorus
Ohhh I come with my messy baggage, I wish I was perfect.
Chorus
What the hell is perfect?
If we’re not perfect
That perfect x2
Verse 2
He sings, not because of pitch or tonality, more because it makes him so happy to sing rocket man in the passenger seat
Pre-Chorus
Ohhhh … I think it’s gonna be a long long time.. until I’m perfect.
Chorus
What the hell is perfect
If we’re not perfect
That perfect x2
Bridge
I couldn’t believe my luck, I was only out to get drunk, I couldn’t believe my luck..
Oh, this must be that kind of love that everyone’s been speaking of, I still can’t believe my luck when I look back at 19.
Pre-Chorus
What the hell is perfect
If we’re not perfect
That perfect.
Chorus
(ad lib melodies throughout)
What the hell is perfect
If we’re not perfect
That perfect x4
